The Mill Creek Preparedness Series is taking place to strengthen the resilience, safety, and well-being of the Mill Creek community in West Philadelphia by equipping residents with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to respond effectively to emergencies, disasters, and environmental threats.

The purpose of the series is to foster a culture of preparedness that is trauma-informed, inclusive, and community-led, especially in a neighborhood that has faced chronic disinvestment, high levels of violence, and limited access to emergency planning resources.

The goals of the series are to:

  • Educate youth, seniors, families, and individuals with disabilities on how to prepare for and respond to various emergencies, including natural disasters, power outages, civil unrest, and food insecurity.
  • Promote emotional and psychological readiness by offering workshops on trauma recovery, mental health, and community healing.
  • Increase access to tools, supplies, and resources through hands-on training, demonstrations, and a culminating resource fair.
  • Strengthen community partnerships and local leadership by bringing together public agencies, grassroots organizations, and residents to build a unified emergency response network.
  • Provide inclusive preparedness strategies that address language barriers, accessibility needs, and intergenerational learning.

Ultimately, the series aims to transform Mill Creek into a safer, more connected, and better-prepared community—one that is empowered to protect and support itself in times of crisis.
