Our core purpose is to leverage the universal joy of food and the spirit of “Kimjang” (the culture of making and sharing kimchi, embodying solidarity and community) to foster stronger community ties, promote mental well-being, and empower immigrant families in their adaptation to a new environment.

The festival enhances mental health by providing a unique platform where happiness from food, shared experiences, and cultural engagement reduces stress, fosters positive emotions, and builds resilience. It strengthens community and reduces isolation by encouraging social interaction and connection through shared cultural activities, thereby reinforcing vital social support networks, particularly within immigrant communities.

The event also promotes cultural competence and inclusivity by celebrating diversity and fostering understanding across cultures, offering educational and engaging experiences that help immigrants and their families feel valued and actively participate in Philadelphia’s rich community life.
