Trauma 101: This course introduces trauma theory, beginning with understanding the brain/body stress response, and then exploring the short- and long-term impact of adversity, toxic stress and trauma. We include discussion of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) research, Historical Trauma and Social Determinants of distress as well as buffering factors and resiliency.

Trauma 102: Building on basic understanding of trauma, this course introduces the principles of trauma-informed care as implemented in a Peer Support relationship. We include strategies and introduction to specific tools for supporting service recipients’ recovery from trauma, as well as strategies for managing vicarious trauma among peer service providers. This training will include the opportunity to begin to practice relevant trauma-informed skills.
