The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc. (The Council) will offer the Supporting Youth Recovery: Peer Paraprofessional Certificate in Supporting Youth Recovery program. Unique to this program is the enhanced version of Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) approved standardized Recovery Specialist (RS) Training to prepare peer paraprofessionals to include addressing the unmet behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, and young adults with a substance use disorder (SUD) and their families to provide RS to youth and young adults in recovery from a SUD and their families.
No cost for accepted students
*Trigger Warning*: This training involves detailed discussions of drug use, overdoses, and demonstrations on how to use Narcan. If you have any concerns, please feel free to email SUPHR staff at overdose.prevention@phila.gov This training provides background information and data on opioid use, Philadelphia's drug supply, and overdoses in our city. There is also a detailed description of how to recognize and respond to an opioid-related overdose with naloxone, or Narcan. To empower Senior Citizens through exposure to governmental agencies, non-profits, medical and mental health agencies, and care-giving agencies that can help them to manage the intricacies of their lives. Participants can engage in breakout sessions on mental health, diabetes, hypertension, and other health issues. There will be information employment, housing, life insurance, wills, and estates, nutrition, and diet and more. There will be healthy refreshments. The Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group seeks to help loss survivors cope, connect, and work toward healing. Trained group facilitators are suicide loss survivors who know firsthand how difficult it can be to find your way after losing someone to suicide. That's why we're doing our part to bring the community together in our family strengthening efforts, to promote mental health awareness and link our local youth to safe, structured activities like summer camps, summer jobs, and apprenticeships. Conscious Queens is an annual educational workshop promoting wellness for girls of color. It is a collaboration of partners, students, and community members throughout the city and the City of Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services (DBHIDS). Multiple community organizations will attend to share wellness techniques to educate young Black girls on how to be physically and emotionally well. Conscious Queens introduces participants to a healthier lifestyle and mindset. Conscious Queens launched in 2022 in response to ongoing gun violence in neighborhoods within Philadelphia.
