  • Pennsylvania Mental Health Advocacy Day

    State Capitol 501 N 3rd St, Harrisburg, United States

    On May 15, hundreds of mental health advocates will march at the State Capitol building to call on lawmakers to invest more funding into mental health resources and professionals across the Commonwealth. The rally will include speeches from mental health leaders such as Representative Mike Schlossberg and former Deputy Secretary Joan Erney. The rally will convene on the steps of the Capitol building at 1pm on Wednesday, May 15th. We are encouraging our partners and stakeholders to attend the rally.

    Adolescent Support Group

    NAMI Philadelphia is excited to launch its Adolescent Support Group! This group is for ages 12-17 and meets every Wednesday at 5 pm on the third floor of the Scattergood Building of Friends Hospital. Participants must complete a registration form and provide a signed permission slip before attendance. This group will be facilitated by Ailkhees Ponton (aponton@namiphilly.org) and John Pillar (jpillar@bdo.com).   • I’m Fine: Art and Healing from Trauma

    Children First will be hosting a special event for advocates following the rally at the nearby Susquehanna Art Museum. On exhibit at the museum is the I’m Fine project, which is an exhibit of over 1,000 masks made by people with mental health challenges to represent how we hide or minimize our emotions and mental health challenges. The event will feature a panel discussion to highlight the need for increased resources and supports for young people’s mental health and explore the ways that art can be healing for young people.     *Trigger Warning*: This training involves detailed discussions of drug use, overdoses, and demonstrations on how to use Narcan. If you have any concerns, please feel free to email SUPHR staff at overdose.prevention@phila.gov This training provides background information and data on opioid use, Philadelphia's drug supply, and overdoses in our city.     May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Interact is hosting a Student Resource Fair on Mental Health Action Day on Thurs 5/16/24 at Pocket Park in Roxborough (about a block down from Greenridge Counseling Center). We’ll be offering students free refreshments and haircuts while we provide mental health resources and talk to them about summer camp and work opportunities to keep them safely engaged through the summer months.
