PPLA is a 10-session course for peers seeking to cultivate leadership skills and help to shape and refine the behavioral health system. Candidate selection is based on their stated commitment to recovery, their motivation, and their interest in the recovery transformation movement. The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc. (The Council) will offer the Supporting Youth Recovery: Peer Paraprofessional Certificate in Supporting Youth Recovery program. Unique to this program is the enhanced version of Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) approved standardized Recovery Specialist (RS) Training to prepare peer paraprofessionals to include addressing the unmet behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, and young adults with a substance use disorder (SUD) and their families to provide RS to youth and young adults in recovery from a SUD and their families.

Trained group facilitators are suicide loss survivors who know firsthand how difficult it can be to find your way after losing someone to suicide. The group is open to anyone 18 years or older who is grieving a loss due to suicide. The group is free and confidential. We will be honoring Dr. Martin Luther King this year with an event highlighting the health disparities that exist within the community at large. We will engage vendors in the areas of nutrition, physical and mental health to assist in informing the community of the disparities that exist and how to mitigate the damage that it causes. Einstein Behavioral Health will be joining and will be providing behavioral health screenings.

Storytelling is a training facilitated by UrStorytellers in collaboration with the City of Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual DisAbility Services (DBHIDS). This training is one of many approved prerequisites for applicants who want to become Certified Peer Specialists. The Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office and Catholic Community Services is hosting a winter coat distribution event January 28, 2023 from 10am to 1pm. There will be new coats, hats and gloves for distribution to those who attend the event. Light refreshments will be provided as well as an opportunity to take a free Mental Health Screening assessment provided by DBHIDS and St. Francis and St. Joseph Out-Patient Clinic.
