The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc. (The Council) will offer the Supporting Youth Recovery: Peer Paraprofessional Certificate in Supporting Youth Recovery program. Unique to this program is the enhanced version of Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) approved standardized Recovery Specialist (RS) Training to prepare peer paraprofessionals to include addressing the unmet behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, and young adults with a substance use disorder (SUD) and their families to provide RS to youth and young adults in recovery from a SUD and their families.

This training is one of many approved prerequisites for applicants who want to become Certified Peer Specialists. This two-hour webinar explores different self-care strategies with a focus on peer support work and recovery. Through the use of structured presentations, group discussions and practical activities, this dynamic, engaging and interactive session invites participants to understand the impact of stress and build skills to thrive in their daily lives. Participants will be given the opportunity to identify and evaluate their own strategies, select specific tools from a list of activities, and create a personal self-care plan. If you have any concerns, please feel free to email SUPHR staff at overdose.prevention@phila.gov This training provides background information and data on opioid use, Philadelphia's drug supply, and overdoses in our city. There is also a detailed description of how to recognize and respond to an opioid-related overdose with naloxone, or Narcan.
