The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc. (The Council) will offer the Supporting Youth Recovery: Peer Paraprofessional Certificate in Supporting Youth Recovery program. Unique to this program is the enhanced version of Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) approved standardized Recovery Specialist (RS) Training to prepare peer paraprofessionals to include addressing the unmet behavioral health needs of children, adolescents, and young adults with a substance use disorder (SUD) and their families to provide RS to youth and young adults in recovery from a SUD and their families.

*Trigger Warning*: This training involves detailed discussions of drug use, overdoses, and demonstrations on how to use Narcan. If you have any concerns, please feel free to email SUPHR staff at overdose.prevention@phila.gov This training provides background information and data on opioid use, Philadelphia's drug supply, and overdoses in our city. There is also a detailed description of how to recognize and respond to an opioid-related overdose with naloxone, or Narcan. 1 event,Storytelling is a training facilitated by UrStorytellers in collaboration with the City of Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services (DBHIDS). This training is one of many approved prerequisites for applicants who want to become Certified Peer Specialists. Our goal is to inform the recovery and faith-based communities on how to share their stories and the importance of sharing them in community settings. This 8-hour course provides the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct CPS work with young adults. Its design incorporates young adult learning strategies and principles, promotes critical thinking, and self-directed and experiential learning to replicate the practice of recovery and peer support. The course centers on the recovery model of behavioral health and on the core values and practices guiding peer-to-peer emotional and psychological wellness. Providing peer support for young adults requires an additional generational lens as well as an understanding of the intersections that define systems [...]
