The Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group is a group to help loss survivors cope, connect, and work toward healing. Trained group facilitators are suicide loss survivors who know firsthand how difficult it can be to find your way after losing someone to suicide. The group is open to anyone 18 years or older who is grieving a loss due to suicide. The group is free, confidential, and meets the second Wednesday of each month. The 10th Annual Operation Bundle up hosted by Catholic Community Services CUA. Free coats available for children of all ages. Child must be present to receive a coat. St. Francis and St. Joseph Out-Patient Clinic will also be on site partnering with DBHIDS in providing free mental health screenings for adults as well as resource information to promote health and wellbeing throughout the Philadelphia community.

Intercommunity Action's next big community event will be on Saturday 12/2/23 with a goal of promoting health equity over the holiday season. We’re partnering with the lovely folks at Block Church, Starfinder Foundation, Tabor Services, Northern Children Services, and NorthLight Community Center for this event. This course introduces trauma theory, beginning with understanding the brain/body stress response, and then exploring the short- and long-term impact of adversity, toxic stress and trauma. We include discussion of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) research, Historical Trauma and Social Determinants of distress as well as buffering factors and resiliency. This course will be held virtually via Zoom.

Description: Building on basic understanding of trauma, this course introduces the principles of trauma-informed care as implemented in a Peer Support relationship. We include strategies and introduction to specific tools for supporting service recipients’ recovery from trauma, as well as strategies for managing vicarious trauma among peer service providers. This training will include the opportunity to begin to practice relevant trauma-informed skills. This course will be held virtually via Zoom.

Reentry program that works with people coming out of the county jails. We have a group of clients who will be paroled the first week in December and we are planning a "Welcome Home" event with resources to help support them in their transition back into the community. We hope to have a clothing distribution, food give away, benefits counselor on site, printed resources, and more. Merakey Behavioral health will be at event to provide mental health screenings and possible resources for the community. |

Storytelling is a training facilitated by UrStorytellers in collaboration with the City Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual DisAbility Services (DBHIDS). This training is one of many approved as a required prerequisite for applicants wanting to become a Certified Peer Specialist.
