Free Mental Health Training for
Occupational Therapists (OTs)

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) increases the level of baseline knowledge about mental health and substance abuse issues. It seeks to decrease the negative perceptions often associated with these issues.  This knowledge can help an occupational therapist’s clients excel at their rehabilitation.  MHFA can help an occupational therapist identify signs and symptoms of behavioral health distress while supporting others in their rehabilitation.  This capacity is critical to good, quality and effective care. It helps OTs treat a person as a whole, not just as a body.

Often the process of rehabilitation is impacted by external stressors, such as anxiety, depression, lack of motivation, and/or family conflict. These stressors can slow down the healing process.  A holistic approach to occupational therapy – one that looks at mental health and physical health needs – will allow OTs to effectively and successfully work with others.

Mental Health First Aid training instills occupational therapists with the confidence to engage clients in crisis and offer them appropriate resources.  Register online for an available community training or request a group training for your occupational therapy center staff.
