SUMMARY:DBHIDS EMOC Beyond Expectations
DESCRIPTION:EMOC Beyond Expectations: Reclaiming Love: Self\, Brotherhood\, and Community is a powerful storytelling event hosted by DBHIDS Engaging Males of Color (EMOC) in collaboration with First Person Arts. Through the transformative art of storytelling\, men of color and community members will share lived experiences centered around three interconnected forms of love: self-love\, love for your brother\, and love for our community. \nThis is not just an event\, it is a gathering of the VILLAGE. We come together to explore what truly means to love ourselves in a society that often teaches us not to. We affirm the bonds of brotherhood that help us carry one another through struggle and triumph. And we ask the village: how do we love our children especially our boys\, so they feel seen\, valued\, and protected? This event is not just a Call to Action but a Call to LOVE. \nThere will be musical accompaniments and visuals to enrich the experience for attendees\, and resource tables and screenings will be provided to increase access to behavioral health services. A community talkback is designed to deepen the discussion\, utilizing relevant themes from the storytellers. There also will be an opportunity for the audience to engage the storytellers and event organizers with questions and comments.

SUMMARY:Overdose Prevention and Reversal Training
DESCRIPTION:*Trigger Warning*: This training involves detailed discussions of drug use\, overdoses\, and demonstrations on how to use Narcan. If you have any concerns\, please feel free to email SUPHR staff at overdose.prevention@phila.gov \nThis training provides background information and data on opioid use\, Philadelphia’s drug supply\, and overdoses in our city. There is also a detailed description of how to recognize and respond to an opioid-related overdose with naloxone\, or Narcan. \nThe training is approximately 1.5 hours with an additional 15 minutes for questions. \nYou can choose to have Narcan discreetly mailed to you after the training. We aim to prioritize our Narcan supply for those with the least access to Narcan and those most likely to witness an overdose. If you have the resources to acquire Narcan on your own\, please consider going to your local pharmacy to get it. \nLearn more about Narcan Training Philadelphia.

SUMMARY:Community Baby Shower
DESCRIPTION:Free to the community\, this popular event offers new and expecting Mom\, Dads and Caregivers many healthcare\, dietary and social resources that can help them and their babies live healthy lifestyles. \nPRESENTED BY\nState Senator Sharif Street\nCouncilmember Jim Harrity\nTemple Health\nTemple University Office of Community Affairs and Engagement\nNORTH\, Inc.\nUptown Entertainment and Development Corporation \nBased on data from the National Vital Statistics System. A maternal death is defined by the World Health Organization as “the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy\, irrespective of the duration and the site of the pregnancy\, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management\, but not from accidental or incidental causes” (1). Maternal mortality rates— the number of maternal deaths per 100\,000 live births—are shown in this report by age group and race and Hispanic origin. This report updates a previous one that showed maternal mortality rates for 2018–2022 (2). In 2023\, 669 women died of maternal causes in the United States\, compared with 817 in 2022 (2) (Figure 1\, Table). The maternal mortality rate for 2023 decreased to 18.6 deaths per 100\,000 live births\, compared with a rate of 22.3 in 2022. \nIn 2023\, maternal mortality rates decreased significantly for White non-Hispanic (subsequently\, White) and Hispanic women (Figure 2\, Table). The observed decrease for Asian non-Hispanic (subsequently\, Asian) and increase for Black non-Hispanic (subsequently\, Black) women was not statistically significant. In 2023\, the maternal mortality rate for Black women was 50.3 deaths per 100\,000 live births and was significantly higher than rates for White (14.5)\, Hispanic (12.4)\, and Asian (10.7) women. Rates decreased significantly for women ages 25–39 and age 40 and older between 2022 and 2023 (Figure 3\, Table). Rates in 2023 were 12.5 deaths per 100\,000 live births for women younger than age 25\, 18.1 for those ages 25–39\, and 59.8 for those age 40 and older. The rate for women age 40 and older was nearly five times higher than the rate for women younger than age 25. Differences in the rates between age groups were statistically significant. \nThe event will feature interactive educational programs\, information tables and counseling assistance on prenatal care\, postpartum care\, diet & exercise\, healthcare coverage\, financial counseling\, parenting\, pediatric care and much more. \nIn a country where the best medical services are available\, programs that focus on reducing maternal mortality are critical to bring awareness to the issue and put in place system changes to ensure positive outcomes for birthing women. \nBelow you will find the site\, date\, and time: \nTemple University\nAramark Student Training and Recreation (STAR) Complex\n1816 North 15th Street\n(Entrance at the corner of 15th and Montgomery)\nSaturday\, July 19\n10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
