Join the Department of Kinesiology and the College of Public Health for our 1st Annual ‘Give Back’ Day in North Philadelphia. This is an opportunity to get involved in North Philadelphia and give back to our local community. For this 1st Give Back Day, we are fortunate to partner with the Bethel Presbyterian Church (1900 York Street). The Bethel Presbyterian Church was started in 1947 by Reverend Robert Lee Maffett, Sr. with the mission of working and supporting the local community. Through the years, Bethel has distributed clothes and food to those in need, provided educational assistance to the youth through tutoring and after school meals and support, and distributed home-cooked meals for the homeless, seniors that are homebound, and those who are unable to cook. Bethel has a Senior Ministry that provides elderly with resources, food boxes, monthly meetings and home delivered food, counseled those suffering with alcohol and drug abuse, and supported individuals suffering with mental health issues. There is also a summer reading program and summer camp for the youth in the community. Throughout 2020, Bethel remained open and continued to work with the community bringing their events to the streets outside of the church.
