Piecing Together the Data on Vaping
October 30 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Our distinguished speakers will discuss the varying research and data on vaping as a nicotine replacement, health implications of e-cigarette use, and what local health departments are doing to address this epidemic through surveillance and policy. Once looked to as a promising smoking cessation tool, e-cigarettes (aka “vaping”) are now gaining negative media attention due to a multistate outbreak of associated lung injuries. More than 10 years after hitting the market, data regarding the health effects of e-cigarettes has yet to be collected by the Food and Drug Administration. Now with over 800 people sick from vaping-related lung illnesses and at least 14 related deaths, public health officials are scrambling to find answers.
