Parent University 2.0 has been established by Majority Leader Curtis Jones Jr. and its mission is to provide parents with the support they need to assist with the success of their children’s learning.

February 24th, 2024, the School of the Future will host the first annual Parent University 2.0 from 9am-3pm. This day-long event will include various breakout sessions aimed at providing not only parents but also school administrators with the tools and resources needed to assist with the student’s learning and achievements. In addition, we will learn about unpacking those invisible bookbags that tend to make school challenging.

Education Workshops presentations by experts in the area of:
– Trauma – Unpacking the invisible bookbag
– How to protect latchkey scholars
– How to navigate as a working parent
– Youth and Young Adult workshop- How to navigate from childhood to adulthood
– Parent Leaders
– What’s under you child’s mattress and what do I do if I find something?
– Paneled discussions on suspensions

Dunbar Community Counseling will participate in this event providing free confidential Behavioral Health Screening, information, and resources to support well-being.

Why Parent University 2.0?
Research from the National Coalition of Parent Involvement in Education shares that “No matter their income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills, show improved behavior and adapt to school well.
