On January 1, 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation which freed all enslaved persons in the Confederate States of America. On June 19th, 1865, members in Texas read this Proclamation to the slaves hence, starting the years-long tradition of celebration on June 19th also known as, “Juneteenth.”

When you think of Juneteenth, it is the “African-American version of Independence” much like, July 4th for America. This Juneteenth, SPPC will host a Trivia Game Night to join communities together to learn more about and celebrate African American heritage.
