Councilwoman Cindy Bass’ 7th Annual Summer Events Series

July 8 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Councilwoman Cindy Bass’ 7th Annual Summer Events Series returns to Philadelphia on July 8 and will run through August 28.

The 2019 Summer Events Series includes outdoor happenings every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. There will be free food at every event this year.

On Mondays at 6 p.m. from July 8 through August 12, Showtime at the Apollo, a carnival-style talent show featuring free food, children’s activities and prizes, comes to Stenton Park, 1701 W. Courtland Avenue. Urban Guerilla Orchestra (UGO) will open Jazz, Funk and Soul with DJ Gary O, a free outdoor concert-style event at Morris Estate, 1610 W. Chelten Ave.

Jazz runs every Tuesday at 6 p.m. beginning July 9 until August 13. Hosted by Philadelphia radio icon Patty Jackson of WDAS, Tuesday’s musical lineup also includes Coast 2 Coast and Trouble Funk.

On Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m. from July 10 until August 28, Oldies in the Park in Vernon Park, 5800 Germantown Avenue, is one of the most attended events. Located on the Germantown Avenue business and historic corridor, in front of the Black Writers Museum, the event includes interactive activities for families and an outdoor dance party with the Legendary Philly DJ Gary O spinning hits from the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.

The free event series has drawn nearly 20,000 attendees over six years to enjoy our city’s outdoor neighborhood spaces as part of the Reclaiming Our Public Spaces campaign.
