SUMMARY:Movement and Memory 2024: DIVERSITY PD Community Event!
DESCRIPTION:DIVERSITY PD is excited to host a FREE event designed for families of color living in the Philadelphia region to learn about and navigate a diagnosis of Parkinson’s or cognitive challenges. Movement disorder specialists experts in memory and cognition social workers rehab professionals and faith-based and community advocates will facilitate community conversations while providing resources education and info. The event is made possible through the generous support from the Davis Phinney Foundation. \nWhile we welcome everyone we are specifically interested in providing information and resources to communities that have been under-resourced under-represented and under-diagnosed. Please note that space is limited and priority will be given to families currently living with Parkinson’s or memory disorders. \nRegister at: https://events.theparkinsoncouncil.org/event/movement-and-memory-2024/e562240 \nDIVERSITY PD is a collaborative effort led by The Parkinson Council which includes providers and partners from Penn Jefferson Cooper Temple the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (PADRECC) Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church and Salem Baptist Church Abington. The goal of our 4-year collaboration is to ensure that people of color have a barrier-free pathway to high-quality Parkinson’s care and services in the Philadelphia region.

SUMMARY:Free Record Clearing & Sealing Clinic (Family Empowerment Expo)
DESCRIPTION:An educational event that focuses on reducing the barriers to employment and family stability for Kensington neighbors. We plan to introduce residents to resources around housing\, financial literacy\, healthcare\, criminal record clearing/sealing and more! \nThis year’s focus will be themed around Record Clearing & Sealing and workforce development. This would include a more in-depth workshop on NKCDC’s services and the city’s legal programs. The clinic will include a resource/job fair open to the community. DJ\, activities and refreshments will be available. \nEach participant will receive budget counseling\, a screening for energy assistance\, credit counseling\, DHCD home repair applications\, new mechanisms for stress management\, criminal record clearing & sealing assistance and how to become active neighbors in the community all for FREE. \nPan American Behavioral Health will be participating and will provide free Behavioral Health Screenings along with resources for well-being.

Open dialogue helps to empower these individuals by understanding the misconceptions and raising awareness for their families.
